Transmission shaft bracket is a key component in the chassis of a car. It is mainly used to support and fix the transmission shaft, thus ensuring that power is transmitted from the engine to the wheels via the gearbox, reducing vibration and noise, and contributing to smooth driving.
Functions of a transmission shaft bracket:
Support the transmission shaft: The transmission shaft bracket mainly provides an additional support point in the middle of the transmission shaft. It prevents sagging or excessive bending of the transmission shaft due to its own weight and centrifugal force caused by rotation.
Reduce vibration: It helps absorb and suppress vibration generated during rotation of the transmission shaft, and prevents vibration from being transmitted to the vehicle body and the chassis, thus improving driving smoothness and comfort.
Allow for small displacements: During drives, there are relative displacements between the engine/gearbox and the drive axle due to reasons such as suspension movement and vehicle body distortion. The transmission shaft bracket allows for limited axial and radial displacements of the transmission shaft in these directions while maintaining adequate support.
Protect the transmission shaft: It prevents damage to the transmission shaft caused by excessive bending or vibration (e.g., due to premature wear of the universal joint or deformation or fracture of the transmission shaft).
Structure of a transmission shaft bracket:
Bearing: It is a core component, which is typically a needle roller bearing or a ball bearing. The transmission shaft runs through it and rotates.
Lining: It wraps or supports the outer ring of the bearing. It serves the main purpose of isolating vibration, and meanwhile allows for certain flexible displacement of the bracket relative to the installation point on the vehicle body.
Seal or dust cover: It protects the interior of the bracket and connecting parts against ingress of mud, water, and impurities.
Position of a transmission shaft bracket: It is typically located in the middle section of the transmission shaft.
