What is the purpose of wheel speed sensor?

08-18,2025

Wheel speed sensors are installed on all wheels of a car. They input the speed signals of each wheel into the ECU. ECU monitors and determines the motion status of each wheel based on the signals from each wheel rotation sensor, and generates corresponding control instructions.

Wheel speed sensors may be damaged due to material aging, environmental erosion, or mechanical fatigue after 5 years of use or 100,000 kilometers of mileage.

Symptoms of a failed wheel speed sensor:

The speedometer reading is abnormal, with pointer jumping or an incorrect value.

The ABS fault light is on. The wheels are prone to lock up during emergency braking. The braking distance becomes longer, and there is a risk of side slip and fishtail.

ESP fault light is on. During turning or when driving on slippery roads, the control stability becomes weaker.

TCS fault light is on. During acceleration on low-adhesion roads, the car may easily slip and the acceleration performance is degraded.

Reasons for failures of a wheel speed sensor:

Failures of the electrical system such as short circuit and open circuit can lead to product damage.

Long-term high temperature (such as brake overheating) accelerates aging, and low-temperature wires are brittle and easy to crack.

Waterlogging of the car causes the blower to become damp or short circuited.

vika wheel speed sensor:

Magnetic steel: Neodymium iron boron materials that are more resistant to high temperatures are used, leading to a longer product service life.

Chip: High-end chips such as Infineon and NXP products are used, ensuring more stable performance.

Enamel wire: The products of German brand Elektrisola are used, with a bare wire tolerance of ±0.003mm, resulting in better product consistency.
