Symptoms and causes of failures of an air conditioning filter
09-15,2025
Failure symptoms:
Dirty filter element: Large amounts of dust, pollen, and particulates accumulate on the surface of the filter element. They are visible or feel dirty.
Odors from the air conditioner: The filter element becomes less efficient during filtering, and consequently accumulated dirt, mold, and musty smell enter the car via the air conditioning system, generating unpleasant odors.
Reduced air output: Filter element blockage leads to higher airflow resistance, results in a significant decrease in air volume, and decreases cooling/heating efficiency.
Failure causes:
Blockage prevents air from flowing smoothly: Dust, pollen, and small particulates accumulate on the filter element over time, reducing the cross section area of the air passage and causing a decrease in air flow.
Increased risk of water accumulation and mold growth: The humid environment around the filter element can easily give birth to bacteria and molds, generate odors, and may cause health problems.
Pressure changes in the air conditioning system: Blockage can change the pressure distribution of the system, and consequently reduce refrigerant circulation efficiency and indirectly affect the outlet air temperature and passenger comfort.
